Shivaratri - the Night of Lord Shiva.There are many legends about the
marriage of Shiva and Shakti and why mahashivratri is celebrated but
what is the core belief for this day is that on this day Mahadeva and his love.
Maha Shivratri is observed in several states of India like Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Bihar. On this day, devotees of Lord Shiva observe a full day fast and perform special pujas in temples. People also offer milk to the Shivaling and pray for moksha.
On the day of Mahashivratri, devotees worship Lord Shiva also known as Mahadeva. Mahashivratri is termed as the 'Great Night of Shiva' and it is said that Lord Shiva saved the entire universe from a pot of poison that emerged from the ocean during Samudra Manthan.
